Hythanol® is the hydrogen liquid base-fuel that leads to the development of HythanolPLUS, a diesel replacement fuel that carries some of the same advantage of Hythanol®. This fuel has the distinct advantage of operating in non-spark ignition engines, even at low temperatures. HythanolPLUS offers significant and instant solutions to emission-reduction as soon as consumers switch fuel.
- A High cetane number 55+
- 60% less CO2 missions
- 95% less particulate matter
- Zero sulfur
- High lubricity
- Biodegradable
- Operates at low temperature. Initial testing shows fuel remaining clear at 10° Fahrenheit. Hythanol® has a freezing point of -175° Fahrenheit, Diesel fuel gels a 15° Fahrenheit.
- Capable of being produced on site with an entire modular GTL suite.
- No foreign reliance for fuel needs
This hydrogen-based liquid fuel replacement for diesel engines requires no modifications to run. HythanolPLUS stands to be a strong competitor for all uses of diesel while also being a top-solution to for dramatically decreasing emissions. Like Hythanol® and its high 116+ octane rating - HythanolPLUS has a high cetane that is conducive to higher compression than a conventional non-spark engine allowing for more boost. MORE POWER!
Since HythanolPLUS has been manufactured with the purpose of keeping present day piston-based non-spark transportation assets in place - this means we can start making a major emissions difference today! We need not wait decades while heavy transportation industries slowly change their fleet to zero-emission vehicles. This also means that regardless of whether HythanolPLUS is being used as a primary fuel, replacement-fuel for a class 8 semi, a 1400' long cargo ship, or a 100 car diesel locomotive train, we can tackle the 1 billion ton elephant in the room with this simple solution.
Is it really as easy as switching fuels?
In a word. Yes. Currently the IMO has identified "levels of ambition," as the initial strategy for reducing total annual GHG emissions by at least 50% by the year 2050, while eventually phasing out emissions entirely at some future date. Considering the rapidly declining climate, we do not have 20 years to gradually lower emissions by half. Ships burning HythanolPLUS could meet and exceed these target goals within a few short years, not decades. HythanolPLUS manufacturing can be done by ANY country. Instead of shipping sub-standard and heavily polluting bunker fuel to ports where they refuel ships, those same ports could manufacture HythanolPLUS themselves, further reducing the carbon footprint.
As Element One Technologies builds out the world's first HyFuels plant in the western United States, our eyes are on the immediate future for our entire planet. Our innovative solutions can be duplicated and customized to fit each country/region's unique resources. Together with our partners and collaborators, we are engineering and developing real-world solutions today, so we can continue to enjoy our planet tomorrow.
Both Hythanol® and HythanolPLUS start with the most abundant element in the universe - Hydrogen. This gives both fuels that added boost for power potential - especially mixed with forced air induction - turbo or supercharging. Conventional gasoline engines run on a smooth 14.7:1 air fuel ratio (AFR) - high performance engines can operate on 10.5-12.5:1 AFR. With the high octane of 116+ built in with Hythanol® - that allows for an decrease in air to fuel ratios all the way down to 6.5:1 for maximum power allowing for 3 times more fuel burnt in the same power stroke of the engine. HythanolPLUS as a biodiesel, carries some of the same advantages compared to diesel that can be applied across the board in all non-spark ignition engines. A Higher cetane number 55+ means far more power potential mixed with forced air induction or higher compression ratio engines without turbo or supercharging.
More power potential, cleaner emissions, longer engine life with higher lubricity than diesel and at competitive pricing is a perfect combo-pack for a fuel that will have a positive impact not only on the bottom line but also for the environment without having to rewrite history with a new infrastructure. HythanolPLUS doesn't require new trucks, cars, trains or planes to replace conventional diesel performance. Keep the cars - ditch the gas!
Since both fuels are based on similar chemical architecture - this allows a combined production plant for manufacturing both fuels. As a biofuel HythanolPLUS feedstock can be grown in an adjacent agrifarm we use for CCU. Coupled with a reliable natural gas stream with CCU - both Hythanol® and HythanolPLUS can be manufactured at a cost very competitive to either gasoline or diesel. This circular plant offers economic benefits of drastically reducing production and operating costs that also comes with a built in independence of external fuel or chemical suppliers. With the ability to grow our own feedstocks then harvest and process - almost everything is produced onsite.
